Learning to row

Are you just starting to row? Then you will join this group. In this group, you will learn to make your first strokes, how to steer and get your first diplomas. You will be coached by experienced youth rowers, so you will get to know them immediately! There is also guidance from junior coaches. For juniors aged 10-14, these training sessions are all about fun and are filled with games and agility (can you, for example, stand in your boat or do a relay race?). Juniors aged 14-18 learn to row in this group and, depending on ambitions, can quickly move on to the following groups.

Throughout the year, there are regional races for this group in which you compete and fun rowing tours.

Training hours

  • Summer: Tuesday 17:00-18:00 en Saturday 13:00-14:30
  • Winter: Indoor training replaces Tuesday training

Learning to train

If you have learned to row and steer, you can move on to the ‘learning to train’ group. In this group, you will still focus on technique to learn to row better, but you will also do some more hard sailing and have strength/conditioning training during the winter. Although rowing is a bit more serious in this group, having fun together is still paramount as well.

There are several competitions during the year, the regional competitions of the previous group but also the own internal competitions at Beatrix (BTC) and the jeugdhead and DIYR - competitions in Amsterdam.

Training hours

  • Tuesday 17:00-18:30
  • Thursday 17:00-18:30
  • Saturday 10:45-12:30

Learning to race

If you have ambitions to compete at national level, you can start training more often in consultation with your coach. You will then train about six times a week, so you must really like rowing and have perseverance! You will of course be well supported by experienced coaches and train in competition boats This is all in preparation for rowing competitions at the national races on the Willem-Alexander Baan in Rotterdam and the Bosbaan in Amsterdam, among others.

Training hours

  • About 6 training sessions per week
