“I started rowing because my father read in the newspaper that there was an open day. He asked me if I would like to try rowing, and I said yes. So we went to the open day, and after that I took some trial lessons and never stopped..

I like the training sessions and the compettions best. I like the training sessions because you always learn something new, and in a fun way. We also often have fun activities, such as having dinner with a large group of people in our canteen. One of the parents comes to cook dinner for us, and then we all eat together. Usually we play some games afterwards, and then we go home.”

"I started rowing in 2021 at the age of 11 and already have quite a bit of experience with major competitions. My first ever competition was the Jeugdhead. This is a national competition covering approximately two and a half kilometers on the Amstel River in Amsterdam. In this competition, I was the coxswain in a four-person boat, together with other rowers from Beatrix. We didn't win the race, but it was still a very enjoyable experience. Often, everything surrounding the race is the most fun. Spending a whole day with friends you've made at the club is a lot of fun. It's even more fun when you win the race. Three years later, we did win that same race. This was my first win at the national level. A few months later, with a partially different team, I won the DIYR, an international competition for young people at the Bosbaan in Amstelveen. We trained hard for a whole year for this victory.

We train on technique, strength, and fitness to become better rowers, and it's most enjoyable when we win too. Not just for us, but also for the coaches who guide us."

"I started rowing when I was 12, through my brother. I found it quite daunting at first, but after the fifth training session, I already really enjoyed it. Now I feel completely at home here at Beatrix. I look forward to the training every time. At Beatrix, we also participate in regional and national competitions. I have rowed in ten competitions so far. Five were regional competitions and the other five were national competitions in places like Amsterdam. I mainly row in a two-person boat and a four-person boat. The competitions are always great fun and very enjoyable. I love the feeling of being exhausted after a race when you've given it your all, and when you win, it's even better. In addition to rowing, I have also coxed boats in competitions several times. I received special training for this in addition to my normal training sessions, and I now really enjoy coxing in competitions and training sessions."
