NATIONAL SCHOOL ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP

Friday 29 May – Bosbaan, Amstelveen

What is the NSRK?

The National School Rowing Championship (NSRK) is the rowing competition between all secondary schools and vocational colleges in the Netherlands and attracts hundreds of participants each year to the Bosbaan in Amstelveen. The NSRK will take place on Friday 29 May 2026. All students, juniors, recreational and competitive rowers who form a crew for their school may participate. They compete on behalf of their school over a distance of 500m for the title ‘Best Rowing School of the Netherlands’ and can join an ergometer challenge.

Registration

Do you attend the Van Maerlant Lyceum, the Lorentz Casimir Lyceum or Augustinianum? Then you can register for the NSRK with your PE teacher.
Students from other secondary schools and vocational colleges may also participate. We do not yet have agreements with these schools, but if you ask your PE teacher to contact us by Dit e-mailadres wordt beveiligd tegen spambots. JavaScript dient ingeschakeld te zijn om het te bekijken. or WhatsApp, we can discuss what is possible.

If you were not a member of the rowing club on 1 January, you will start in the field for inexperienced fours from the lower years (up to grade 3) or upper years (including vocational colleges). You row with four rowers and a cox. You can register as a complete crew or with fewer than four people, and we will try to assemble a boat for you. We will, in any case, provide an experienced cox.

Note: Swimming diploma A is required to participate in the training sessions and the NSRK.

Training for the NSRK

To appear well-prepared at the start of the competition, you will train together with your crew. In the first lessons, we focus on how the rowing stroke works. Afterwards we increasingly work on speed in the boat. During these lessons, you are guided by experienced juniors and coaches, and you can use the equipment of ERV Beatrix. We use the lesson series of the KNRB.

The final training session before the NSRK will end with an internal race and lots of pancakes!

The race day

On race day we will travel together to the Bosbaan in Amstelveen. This is one of the two rowing courses in the Netherlands, and later in the summer, the Rowing World Championships are also held here. So on this day, you can imagine yourself a real competitive rower! You will row in fours that are already located at the Bosbaan, and for the experienced rowers, we will bring our own boats.

You will race a 500m twice, competing side by side with other crews. The first race is mainly about setting a good time, and the final race determines whether you win. In addition to the on-water race, you can also compete on the ergometer to see how much power you have in your legs!
